A note about the artist and the biz

Next Signal Designs is the creative offspring of Ruthie Powers, a mixed media and fiber artist living in Austin, Texas. Over the past several years her interests have gone from creating small art quilts each day to dyeing and silkscreening fabric to printing on fabric with stamps.

Her current practice includes cutting black paper with an art knife to create abstract designs that give impressions of both animal and plant. She has developed some of the best of these designs into the Next Signal Designs rubber stamps, with more to come over time.

She has exhibited her journal quilts at the International Quilt Festival in Houston and was chosen for the book about the journal quilt project. She is a founding member of Austin Fiber Artists (2007) and a member of the Women Printmakers of Austin. Ruthie volunteers as the Texas representative of the Surface Design Association (2008 to present) and recently joined Studio Art Quilt Associates.

Ruthie has taken workshops with internationally-known fiber artists such as Jane Dunnewold and Kerr Grabowski as well as a variety here in Austin.
